about us

Our Church is a Missional Community of disciples learning to live and love like Jesus.

Come and See

Discover Life with Jesus

Journey Church has always been about reaching people far from God. We believe the lost, the hurting, and the broken can find hope, purpose, and their unique place in God’s story.

At the center of this hope is discipleship to Jesus. Discipleship means entering into a relationship with Him that shapes every part of life. It is learning to be with Jesus, become like Jesus, and do what Jesus did as we fulfill the Great Commission—making disciples and teaching them to obey everything He commanded (Matt. 28:18-20).

Our Mission

Become a missional community of disciples learning to live and love like Jesus.

Our Vision

In Tifton as It Is in Heaven

We believe the Church is not a building or a weekend activity, but a people. We seek to live out the gospel in our city throughout the week and then gather each weekend as a missional community.

Our goal is to join God in His relentless pursuit of making disciples of Jesus who experience and embody the Kingdom of God here and now. Our prayer echoes the words of Jesus: that God’s Kingdom would come and His will would be done in Tifton as it is in Heaven.

Our Beliefs

Centered on Jesus,
Rooted in Scripture

We believe that to be a disciple of Jesus is to order your life around three goals: be with Jesus, become like Jesus, and do what Jesus did. Our dream is that as we live this way, our lives, our communities, and our city will be transformed.

We believe discipleship flourishes in the context of the local church. That’s why, in a welcoming and authentic environment, we pursue transformation through gospel-centered teaching, spiritual practices, and biblical community. Our desire is to be a church where people not only encounter Jesus but are being transformed into His image, from one degree of glory to the next (Rom. 8:29; 2 Cor. 3:18).

The ancient church father St. Augustine offers a helpful statement on any church’s shared beliefs, “In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In everything, love.” The idea bound up in these few words is that there exist essential teachings within Scripture that the church must be united on if the people are to experience the life of God in the family of God.

Additionally, the church has divided over the years time and time again over smaller disputes, for which there should be liberty within the church family to come as far as each member is able, honoring the continual process of belief that we each experience over a lifetime of walking with Jesus. The essentials are the anchors that hold us.

The non-essentials are vital, extremely important, but the most loving, dignifying way to hold these teachings in the Christian Church is by liberty. Finally, in everything, we are a family bound together by love. Right belief, expressed pridefully, is not love. Wrong belief, permitted freely, is also not love. Right belief, championed by love, is what Jesus embodied. We, the Body of Christ, should be a living expression of the same.

The Journey Begins

Our Story

Journey Church held its first service on January 3, 2010. Journey began as an intentional church plant, meaning it was started because of a calling—not as a result of a church split or a splinter group from another congregation. Founding Pastor Benji Rowland and his family answered God’s call to bring this vision to life in Tifton, GA, planting the seeds for a thriving church community.

Today, Journey Church is stepping boldly into a new season under the leadership of our new lead pastor, Alan Gotthardt. Alan’s deep passion for the gospel and discipleship is leading our church to grow as a missional community learning to live and love like Jesus. With a focus on becoming more like Jesus, we are filled with excitement and anticipation for what God has in store. As we seek to see His Kingdom come in Tifton as it is in Heaven, we are confident that the best is yet to come for Journey Church!

Journey Church has always been about reaching those that are far from God. That won’t change! We believe the lost, the hurting, and the broken can find hope, purpose, and their unique place in God’s story. In our casual and contemporary environment, people experience authentic worship, are inspired by Biblical and practical teaching, and are brought into a community of other believers learning to live and love like Jesus. Our heart is to see people grow as disciples of Jesus, embodying His life and character in their words, actions, and every aspect of life. At Journey Church, we invite everyone to not only discover a relationship with Jesus but to embrace the journey of becoming more like Him through a life of discipleship.
